DeShon Elliott must mend his relationship with Aaron Rodgers quickly because the veteran quarterback will lead the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2025-26 season. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Rodgers will fly to the Steelers’ facility on Friday before the start of the mandatory minicamp.

The Steelers players may be relieved that Rodgers finally agreed to play for them, except for one. In February, the Steelers emerged as the front-runners to sign free agent Aaron Rodgers after his two-year spell with the New York Jets ended.

Texas native and the Steelers defensive back DeShon Elliott advised Rodgers to stay away from the AFC North franchise.

Leave his as* at the retirement home.

Karma has a funny way of slapping back. Elliott didn’t waste time and began damage control by confessing that he wasn’t serious when he made the statement about Rodgers.

Y’all, I was trolling.

Jokes aside, some players were unhappy and concerned regarding Rodgers taking his sweet time to decide whether to commit to the Steelers. All-Pro defensive lineman Cam Heyward said,

Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple [and] that’s the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers. If you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.

Personal reasons clouded Rodgers’ judgment. According to reports, people close to him were fighting against serious health issues that required his undivided attention.

As the NFL calendar moves into mid-June, Rodgers will fly to Pittsburgh and sign a contract. Initially, several reports indicated he might sign a two-year deal, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said it will only be a one-year deal. The details about his contract remain confidential.

What number will Aaron Rodgers wear for the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Numbers are a big part of a football player’s career. It’s largely connected to superstition, so some athletes prefer to wear one specific number for their entire career. It doesn’t always work out. Giants rookie Abdul Carter discovered it the hard way.

Fans might see a similar situation with Rodgers in Pittsburgh. He won 4x NFL MVPs at the Green Bay Packers while donning the number 12, but later switched to number 8 when he signed with the Jets.

Now he might request 12 at Pittsburgh, but it’s doubtful whether the previous owner will allow him to wear it. Terry Bradshaw possessed the number from 1970 to 1983. However, he recently advised the Steelers to stop pursuing Rodgers in favor of starting Mason Rudolph.

That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.

Rodgers chose number 8 in New York out of respect for Jets legendary quarterback Joe Namath, who led the franchise to its only ever Super Bowl victory. Perhaps he will adopt a similar stance at the Steelers.

Mike Tomlin is finally reaping the benefits of patience. He received ample criticism from all corners for pursuing Rodgers, but didn’t waver from his position. The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016. Adding the Super Bowl-winning quarterback could finally break the postseason jinx.
